New theatre venue to open in September

HARARE - Rooftop Promotions says its new 500-seater Theatre in the Park venue, set to be officially opened in September, will offer a range of new benefits to patrons.

The new venue, located in the Harare Gardens, will set up a membership facility open to both individuals and organisations.

“Some of the unique benefits are discounts of tickets, inviting a friend on discount, priority entrance, priority seating as well as the chance to be given preference on premiere nights. This facility is not only limited to individuals but will also be extended to organisations as well,”read part of a statement released by Rooftop yesterday.

“For organisations, they will have the privilege of inviting their staff members to plays on discounted tickets and the organisation will have the opportunity of using the venue either as a workshop or conference facility on discount”.

In the same statement, Rooftop also revealed the appointment of a resident artistic director for the new theatre venue.

“This resident artistic director will be used for purposes of quality control and evaluation of all productions coming to Theatre in the Park and will help community -based groups who need professional guidance for their work to be accepted locally, regionally and internationally”

Rooftop has also promised to give Harare-based theatre groups the chance to rehearse for free at the new venue and to also showcase some of their productions.

The Harare-based arts organisation claims their venue will be one of the best arts venues in Zimbabwe.

The new theatre home being constructed by Rooftop Promotions follows their expulsion in 2012 by the Zimbabwe International Book Fair from the venue they had used for 17 years after a fallout over rentals.
