Zvishavane derby charms Mosimane

HARARE - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimame was on Saturday charmed by the explosive Zvishavane derby between FC Platinum and Shabanie Mine ranking it as one of the best that he has ever seen.

Mosimane, who is in the country on a scouting mission, was highly impressed with the tension and build-up to the match by the supporters who created a carnival atmosphere in and around Mandava Stadium.

“I am really charmed by the atmosphere in this derby, it’s just something else. It’s one of those best derbies I have ever witnessed but after watching here, this is a big derby,” Mosimane, who guided Downs to their first South African title in seven seasons, said.

“The atmosphere is even more tense than our own Tswane derby between Sundowns and Supersport United.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach was also impressed by some players from both teams hinting that he might want to have a relook at some of them.

“I was really impressed by a number of players, the way they applied themselves. From Shabanie, I was impressed by Godknows Murwira, Ashley Mukwenya, and Allan Tavarwisa while Aaron Katebe and James Marufu played well for FC Platinum. Zimbabwe has always been a scouting ground for us and as we tour the country we continue to identify one or two players. Recently, we added Kuda Mahachi from Zimbabwe.”

The Zvishavane derby, which is fast becoming the most explosive derby in the country, lived up to its billing with FC Platinum edging Shabanie 2-1 in a tightly-contested match at Mandava.
