'Harare derby will rain goals'

HARARE - For once in the long history of the Harare derby between Dynamos and CAPS United there could be goals in abundance, former Green Machine winger Alois Bunjira has predicted.

Sunday’s Harare derby at the National Sports Stadium brings together two great rivals face-to-face in a match which might go a long way in deciding the destiny of the 2014 Castle Premiership title.

To further spice up the encounter, both DeMbare and Makepekepe go into the match only separated by goal difference in second and third place respectively on the log standings behind leaders Highlanders by one point.

Having been involved in many explosive Harare derby battles during his Makepekepe career in the 90s, Bunjira acknowledges emotions will be running high at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

“It all depends on how you handle the emotions as a player. You are told what to do and then the emotions of a derby, you start flying around everywhere,” Bunjira, who is now a radio sports presenter, told the Daily News.

“It promises to be an exciting match. It comes at a very good time with both teams tied on the same number of points and for the first time in many years, the top teams in the country are in the top three positions on the log.

“There is so much at stake, pride and also the points. This is one match which very pivotal in CAPS United’s quest for the championship. If we beat them we can win the championship.

United have turned around their season with four consecutive wins and Bunjira believes this gives his former club the momentum in Sunday’s match.

“We are coming from a very good run and if we can win on Sunday then it will be a morale booster to the guys that we can actually do it,” he said.

“All derbies by their nature are dog fights and I am not expecting anything different from this one on Sunday. I think you will see at the weekend that it will be a full-blooded affair.”

The Harare derby has in the past years hardly been recognised as the biggest game in the capital, if not in the country, and has fell way short of justifying its status as the flagship fixture of the Castle Premiership.

Bunjira, however said: “I think the current crop of players is lacking pride wearing that green jersey. They seem not to know what it means playing for the Green Machine. But that’s what we are trying to tell the boys. The supporters have been there and they always want to see these teams playing good football.

“Losing in a derby match is very painful especially to the fans that come and watch these matches. During our playing days, we made it a point that it was not permitted to lose to Dynamos.

“One thing that I can assure you is that it’s not going to be a dull a match. We are going to see goals. Both teams have been scoring goals and we are in for a treat.

“Something special always happens in a derby. This is an exciting game for us and the competition.”

Bunjira is someone who craves for limelight, the moment he gets it he gets it he grabs it with both hands, there he is dreaming that goals will rain, from where, wait and see

Bunjira is very right, am sure from the experience and the current form of his former club. He sees goals and this is just an opnion let's all of us remember this.

GLAMOURBOY is obviously talking from a Dynamos' perspective where the strikers have been blunt with an average of 1 goal per each (some have not yet registered their names on the scoresheet). That's why he questions "from where the rain of goals will come from". But Bunjira as a green blooded man knows that Makepekepe strikers have been scoring goals and does not see that changing come the derby day. So if Dynamos does not contribute to the anticipated rain of goals then tough luck, Makepekepe will go out of the derby with all the bragging rights!
