Zim Under-18 open SA tour with win

HARARE - A fiery spell of left-arm opening pace bowling by Rugare Magarira spearheaded a resounding win for Zimbabwe Under-18 in the opening match of the EJCCA cricket festival in Benoni, South Africa.

The tall Eaglesvale boy claimed a staggering three wickets for eight runs in his four overs to destroy the Easterns U-17 top order in this Twenty20 match at Willowmoore Park.

Zimbabwe batted first to reach 165 for five wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to quick-fire runs from two St John’s College pupils, Kyle Hopper (46 not out) and Brad Evans (42).

The U-18 team, whose classy kit is sponsored by Zimbabwean company Drum City, will play four T20 and two 50-over matches during their tour that ends on Sunday.

Scores: Zimbabwe U-18 165/5 in 20 overs (K. Hopper 46 not out, B. Evans 42); Easterns 114/6 in 20 overs (R. Magarira 3/8). Zimbabwe won by 51 runs.
