Kirsty announced official Econet Ambassador

HARARE - Kirsty Coventry, who is gunning to compete in her fifth Olympic Games in 2016, yesterday received a major boost after being made brand ambassador for giant telecommunications company, Econet.

The telecommunications giant said it was an honour to partner one of the most decorated female swimmers in the history of the Olympics, who has won seven Olympic medals and broken seven world records.

“Indeed Econet is inspired to change your world and in an effort to lead this change, we have partnered with Kirsty Coventry as our official Brand Ambassador,” Econet said in a statement yesterday.

“Already in her career, she has been nominated as the African Swimmer of the Year on five separate occasions and then her most recent tribute has seen her elected as a member on the International Olympic Committee where she will serve for an eight year term.

"Not stopping there, Kirsty has announced her commitment to compete in her 5th Olympic games in Rio 2016. The road has not always been easy, but Kirsty’s single-minded determination has resulted in achievements beyond anyone’s wildest dream proving that you can indeed change your world.

“With all her success, Kirsty Coventry remains humble, caring and honest. These values coupled with her passion for success shows the woman she is, someone who shares in the vision and values that we as a business strive to uphold.

“As a nation, we believe that a role model such as Kirsty Coventry needs all of the support that we are able to give her and as she prepares to compete in her 5th Olympic Games, we are very pleased to be able to give her our support.”

Coventry was naturally elated with the development.

“It is very exciting for two of Zimbabwe’s leading brands to be working together to positively inspire change across our nation,” she said on her official website.

“It is a privilege and honour of which I believe we will compliment each other very well as we have very similar values however we are separate identities coming together with different strengths and from different backgrounds.

“I am sincerely appreciative for all of the support and encouragement that I have received and I believe that as we move forward together, we have a great future ahead.

“Thank you very much for the opportunity and I look forward to making both Econet and my country proud.”
