Midlands Music Awards on tonight

HARARE - Sungura musician Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo and rising gospel artiste Mathias Mhere have the chance to land their maiden gongs at the inaugural Midlands Music Awards to be held at the Midlands Hotel in Gweru tonight.

Moyo, who has one album under his name, has been nominated in the Best Sungura Artiste category while his album Mushonga Mukuru is in the running for Best Live Recording Album award.

For the sungura award, Young Igwe will battle it out against Gift Amuli (Zvishavane Sounds) and Ronnie Mudhindo (Orchestra Vazvamburi).

For the Best Live Recording Album award, the Kwekwe-born musician will compete against Mathias Mhere’s Nguva yeNyasha, Telson Migi’s “KwaTerry” and Zig Zag Band’s Harder than a Rock.

The provincial awards have been dominated by Kwekwe-based Goodchild who has four nominations while Gweru-born Masimba “Ur Highness (C-Blud)” Mukoki has two nominations.

Ur Highness is a rapper/singer who first came onto the music scene with a 2004 single called Still luvin you that featured Clara Sisya .

He participated in Nasty Trixx’s  hit song ChiDanger. On his latest song Manakiro, he features Goodchild.
