Platinum set to wrestle CAPS' Chungwa

HARARE - CAPS United striker Dominic Chungwa underwent medicals at FC Platinum on Tuesday with the miners reportedly lining up a sensational mid-season move for the Green Machine hitman.

Chungwa, the Castle Premiership’s second leading scorer with five goals, has been one the Zimbabwean league’s top-performers so far this season, leading a CAPS side aiming to win their first league title in nine years.

A bustling striker with a proven nose for goal, 25-year-old Chungwa joined United last season from division one outfit Hippo Valley, where he plundered 34 goals in the second-tier league in 2012.

He initially struggled in his debut Premiership season last term, but Chungwa is finally beginning to show flashes of his potential for the Green Machine, and his departure for Zvishavane will be a massive blow to coach Taurai Mangwiro.

He has also struck a chord with the Makepekepe fans, who see the forward as a key man in their quest for silverware this season.

And with CAPS often facing financial problems and unable to pay its players on time, Platinum have tabled an offer and a deal is expected to be reached this week.

Lloyd Mutasa’s team is searching for a replacement for Njabulo Ncube, who has publicly expressed his wish to return to Highlanders.

Donald Ngoma is also out for six weeks after dislocating his shoulder against Black Rhinos last week.
