Luis Suarez banned for nine matches

ZURICH - World governing body Fifa have imposed a record nine-match ban on Uruguay striker Luis Suarez for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The independent disciplinary committee imposed the suspension after finding the 27-year-old guilty of misconduct.

Suarez has also been banned from all football for four months.

The incident occurred during Tuesday's 2014 Fifa World Cup Group D game, which Uruguay won to qualify for the last 16.

It is very wrong ,because they were supposed to suspend him then disqualify the team and give the match to Italy on a 3-0 aggregate score line maybe the players lost focus after the bite(am a Liverpool supporter)

The penalty imposed is pathetic to say the least, he should ' ve been given a 24 month match ban because he is no first offender.
