Green Machine face Hwange test

HARARE - CAPS United’s recent revival, which has seen the former champions win two matches on the trot, faces a stern test when they take on Hwange this weekend.

The Green Machine hosts the log leaders in a Castle Premiership match at the National Sports stadium on Sunday.

Last weekend, Makepekepe picked up their first win outside Harare when they beat struggling Chiredzi FC at Chishamiso Stadium 2-0. That victory came hard on the heels of their 3-0 victory over Shabanie Mine two weeks ago.

The result in Chiredzi meant it was the first time the four-time Zimbabwe champions won back-to-back matche,s 12 games into the 2014 season.

Despite that lack of consistency this season, the Harare giants find themselves just two points behind the log leaders Hwange.

Although they lost 0-1 at home to Chicken Inn at the weekend, the coalminers have had a positive start to the new season, winning six games and drawing four.

However, CAPS coach Taurai Mangwiro is not worried about Hwange’s fine form ahead of Sunday’s clash with the coalminers.

“We are not worried about Hwange’s position on the log standings. It will not be an easy game, however, we are going to put maximum effort,” Mangwiro told the Daily News yesterday.

“We need to maintain consistency and I’m happy we won our last two games, which is good because in previous games we lacked consistency.

“I’m sure our past two results will give us confidence in our game against Hwange.”

Mangwiro can take some comfort in the fact that United have been irresistible at home.

“Our home performance is good this season and we hope that my boys will carry this fine home performance on Sunday,” said Mangwiro.

“We have three more days to prepare for the game and I think come Sunday we will be ready for the game. Everyone is aware of the task at hand and we do not have any major injuries for now.

“It will be a tough game, but our approach remains the same, we are not going to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure.”

Sunday: Triangle United v How Mine (Gibbo), Highlanders v Black Rhinos (BF), Buffaloes v Chapungu (Sakubva), CAPS United v Hwange (NSS.)
