CAPS United revival continues

CHIREDZI - CAPS United’s Castle Premiership revival continued yesterday after beating Chiredzi 2-0 here yesterday to deliver a rare away win for the Green Machine.

United left it until late though at Chishamiso, getting a comfortable win in the end through goals from striker Dominic Chungwa and fullback Hardlife Zvirekwi on 68 and 71 minutes respectively.

The Harare giants, who have not won the league title in nine years, responded to their coach Taurai Mangwiro’s (pictured) call to improve their away form if they are to have any hopes of challenging for the championship this term.

It was CAPS’ first win outside Harare this season.

Until yesterday their only away win, technically speaking, had been against Harare City in the capital.

In the countdown to yesterday’s match, Mangwiro said a win against Moses Chunga’s lowly Lowveld team would spark off a good run of form.

The CAPS camp  this season has already been rocked by reports of non-payment of dues to players, and only two weeks ago Zimbabwe international Zvirekwi boycotted an away trip in protest.

Meanwhile, in other matches played yesterday, How Mine and FC Platinum drew nil-all at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo while Shabanie Mine and ZPC Kariba settled for a one-all draw in Zvishavane.

PSL debutants ZPC are not the only undefeated team in the Zimbabwean top-flight league following Highlanders’ 1-0 defeat by champions Dynamos yesterday.

With the win, CAPS are now in sixth position with 20 points from 12 games, while Chiredzi remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points from the same number of games.

Dynamos 1 Highlanders 0, Chiredzi 0 CAPS 2, Hwange 0 Chicken Inn 1, How Mine 0 Platinum 0, Shabanie 1 ZPC 1.
