Unique charity concert on cards

HARARE -  Top music artistes Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, along with Charles and Olivia Charamba will perform at the Soap and Shirt Donation Winter Festival (SSDWF) to be held on June 21 at the Belgravia Sports Club.

The charity festival, that will also feature gospel artistes Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave and Pastor G, is meant to raise essential goods for victims of the Tokwe-Mukorsi and Tsholotsho floods.

Artistes will perform for free in the gig being organised by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) in conjunction with the Women’s Trust (TWT) and Batanai HIV and Aids Organisation (Bhaso).

ZimRights Director Okay Machisa says people will gain entrance into the festival by donating either soap, sanitary pads, T-shirts or anything that can be used by those in need.
“The SSDWF is an initiative by ZimRights and its partners following the increase in the number of victims affected by natural disasters annually,” said Machisa.

“Zimbabwe is affected by some of the natural disasters that come in the form of drought, floods, diseases outbreak and extreme temperatures. It will be held as a family day and will run from 10 in the morning to 6 in the evening.”

Men who bring sanitary pads will be given free drinks on entry into the unique show.

“Entrance to the event will require the public to bring used or new soap and new or used clothes. SSWDF is key in promoting socio-economic rights as it seeks to bridge the gap of poverty created by some of the above-mentioned natural disasters.

“We believe the SSDWF will allow every Zimbabwean from all walks of life to take responsibility and make a positive difference to the people in Tokwe-Mukorsi, Matabeleland North and Mashonaland central provinces who were heavily struck by merciless floods,” said the ZimRights boss.

Machisa added that the SSDWF is a necessary platform created to mobilise the general populace to help the needy.

“The floods left over tens of thousands of people homeless, hungry and destitute to the extent of losing their lifetime investments. This left them extremely vulnerable and hopeless. We need to clothe the naked and to feed the hungry.

“Proceeds realised from this festival will be channelled to benefit flood victims. We would like to invite all to come with soap, clothes, blankets and sanitary pads which will go a long way in assisting the survivors of the floods,” he said.
