St George's, PE renew Centenary rivalry

HARARE - A battle for supremacy is expected this weekend when St Georgie’s College and Prince Edward sports teams clash in the traditional Centenary Sports Day set for today and tomorrow at Saints.

The Centenary Sports Day is an annual event to commemorate the establishment of the country’s two oldest boys’ schools, both established over 100 years ago.

The two clash in several sporting disciplines across the two days, with the big rugby match later in the afternoon on Saturday being the highlight of festivities.

Prince Edward’s Tigers will be out for revenge after losing 42-18 to Saints last year.

In football, PE have dominated the event over the years, and only last year they beat St George’s 3-2.

PE have already beaten St George’s this year in football, hammering their cross-town rivals 3-0 in the final of the Under-20 Hummer & Tongues invitational tournament two weeks ago.

Hockey is another main sport during the event. PE won 1-0 last year, but they will be up against it this time around. St George’s currently lead the Schools Northern Region A League, and are presently on top of their game.
