Soul Jah Love childish: Ex-manager

HARARE - Dancehall star Soul Jah Love’s former manager, Courage Zikhali, has dismissed the controversial artiste’s latest track titled Handimbomira as “sour grapes.”

Zikhali, who recently parted ways with the Simudza Musoro singer under acrimonious circumstances, told the Daily News yesterday that Soul Jah Love’s attack in the new song was motivated by sheer bitterness.

“He is just bitter because I took away all the things I had given him,” said Zikhali.

“I will not continue to respond to his silly games. We had a fallout and he is handling it the best way he can. Singing is his field and I cannot compete with him on that front.”

The dancehall star’s former manager, however, expressed disappointment with the way his well-intentioned actions were misconstrued by Soul Jah Love.

“He failed to realise what I wanted to do for him and failed to adhere to our arrangements,” said Zikhali.

I am now working with other artistes and I will not be dragged down that path. I will not be commenting anymore on what he is saying. It is childish and I will not fight with him.

“I am a businessman and my focus is on running my businesses and helping artistes who want to be helped,” he said.

In the just-released track, Soul Jah Love savages Zikhali and boldly declares that he has the talent to continue flourishing without the support of his ex-manager.

Part of the controversial song goes: Nyangwe ukandidhama Hummer…
Kunyangwe ukafunga kuti ndochinoimba ndini ndinoimba
Bhutsu haiimbe, hembe haiimbe, mota haiimbe ndini chete ndinoimba
Unoda kundimisa unototora voice
Asi uzochenjera boys panozoita noise.

Loosely translated in English the lyrics mean, “Even if you take away your Hummer, it won’t stop me from singing. Your clothes, your shoes, your car do not sing. I am the one who sings. If you want to stop me from singing you will have to take away my voice, but be warned because my fans will react violently to that.”

In the song, Soul Jah Love also attacks the media for spreading lies about him and tarnishing his image at the instigation of Zikhali.

Mupfana uyu ari childish zveshuwa. Mr Zhikali, concentrate on building your empire and let this silly-boy clouded with overnight "fame" perish in his new heaven. We wish him well though but he needs to grow up.

Of course the talent is there but talent without brain is like beauty without brain. Its the same as soccer there are a lot of good players better than Peter but without proper management you are doomed. To Zikhali I say Big Up, wait for 6months down the line he would be a nobody. Wanoimba wakawanda

Zhikali is speaking as if he was not benefitting anything from his agreement with Soul Jah Love......... l salute Soul Jah Love for not being a servant of money...........

The reason why some international artists have only done one album and disappeared is the fact that the music industry is a business. Signing up to a record label means the manager of that label is willing to put their own cash and resources upfront, taking a risks. Part of that contract is hard graft, hence you hear artists touring the world suffering from fatigue, stress cox they have to graft for their money. so Soul Jah love was put on a level which could have come with endorsements etc.... but shallow mind, wants to drive a hummer but not attend shows.... Its sad that this kid might never hit the highs of his peers e.g. Sulu, Jah Prayaz due to lack of education. You cant survive ne voice chete mufana... saying that unogona hako and you need to reconcile with Zikhali
