Bafana searches for new coach

JOHANNESBURG - Gordon Igesund's contract as Bafana Bafana coach will not be renewed, Safa president Danny Jordaan said in Johannesburg on Monday. His termination date remains August 30.

"The process of finding a new coach will start after this press conference," Jordaan said after a meeting with Igesund and the national executive committee at Safa House.

Igesund was appointed two years ago but has had a succession of disappointments at the helm, including failure to qualify for the World Cup finals in Brazil and a quarterfinal exit on home soil at the 2013 African Nations Cup.

The 57-year-old Igesund is the 17th coach the country has employed since their readmission to international football in 1992.

Media reports last week suggested Igesund would be replaced by former Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz, who is currently in charge of the Iranian team taking part in the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil. - Reuters
