Stage set for Old Mutual Nkulumane race

BULAWAYO - Old Mutual have increased the prize money for this year’s edition of the Nkulumane Fun Run set to be held here tomorrow.

The investment and insurance giant will pour $11 000 towards the prize fund for the race, up from last year’s $10 000.

The race will start at Nkulumane Complex at 6am.

The main event will be 10km-run that will see the winners getting $1 000 in both the male and female categories.

Wirimai Juwawo has won the race in the men’s category for the past two years while Olivia Chitate won the 2013 addition in the women’s section.

Addressing a press conference in Bulawayo earlier this week, Old Mutual Regional Manager, Margaret Vera, explained the reasons behind the change of date.

Traditionally, the race takes place in November but Old Mutual decided to bring it forward to June.

“We have moved to June this year as a way of making our diary easy for us. We have a very tight diary,” Vera said.

“We are involved in so many activities and we felt we needed to space them throughout the year hence we moved the Nkulumane Fun Run to June.”

Vera also hinted on changing the race into a full marathon to be run over 25km in the future.
