Zimplants donate kits to Parliamentarians

HARARE - Zimplats has donated four kits to the Parliamentarians football team ahead of their match against business executives at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The match with the captains of industries will be a curtain-raiser for Zimbabwe’s African Nations Cup qualifier with Tanzania.

Zimplats chief executive Alex Mhembere said his company is hoping to have a long-standing relationship with policymakers.

“For us, it is a privilege to be here and I’m happy to associate with the august house,” Mhembere said.

“We give material donations rather than money because if we give money people may think we are bribing parliamentarians.

“To parliamentarians, I say play well, enjoy the game and show the country that you are not only capable of leading the country politically but also socially.”

Temba Mliswa, chairman of the Sports, Arts and Culture portfolio committee, said:

“This is an important gesture from Zimplats and I really appreciate it when the corporate world comes in to support us in our endeavour to develop football.”
