Zim comedians off to SA, Swaziland

HARARE - Zambezi News, one of Zimbabwe’s leading comedy series, has lined up a tour of South Africa and Swaziland at the end of the month.

The Zambezi News cast, which includes Comrade Fatso, Michael K and Outspoken, will begin their tour with a show at the popular Awednesday Comedy Jam in Johannesburg on May 28.

The talent-laden Awednesday focusses on comedy that deals with coloured stereotype.

The following day Comrade Fatso and his cast will feature as Zimbabwean correspondents on Late Night News (LNN) hosted by top South African comedian Loyiso Gola on DStv , eNCA.

While in South Africa, the Zimbabweans will film Zambezi News Season Three that will feature John Vlismas, Kagiso Lediga and other leading comedians across the Limpopo.

From May 30 to June 2, the Zambezi News cast will do four shows on their debut appearance at Swaziland’s premier international arts festival — the BushFire Festival. At the arts fiesta of the tiny southern African kingdom, the comedians will share the stage with compatriots Oliver Mtukudzi and Mokoomba as well as other top acts like Uhuru, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Bongo Maffin.

The tour comes as a fitting recognition of the success of the comedy series in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Last year, the Zimbabwean comedians took part in the Gothenburg International Book Fair in Sweden as well as the Comics Choice Awards in South Africa.

The satirical news show, created by Comrade Fatso and Outspoken and sponsored by Magamba Network, features comical news presenters who delve into everyday issues ranging from politics to sport.
