DeMbare pile misery on Chunga

CHIREDZI - Chiredzi's miserable start to the season continued after slipping to yet another defeat, this time falling 1-0 to champions Dynamos at Chishamiso yesterday.

Patrick Kumbula scored the solitary goal for the defending champions in the 34th minute after beating on off-side trap, a goal that handed Chiredzi their sixth defeat of the season in the Castle Premiership.

After gaining promotion into the top-flight league at the beginning of the season, Moses Chunga’s side have only managed one win and two draws, which leaves second from bottom with five points.

The Dynamos legend admitted this was not the kind of start to the season he had hoped for but remains defiant to get things right.

“We played well but went on to sleep and conceded that goal. The good thing is that we can get some positives from the game because we did match them man for man,” Chunga told reporters after the game.

“We created chances but we did not make them count. I think we need to work hard on our finishing and concentration otherwise our performance is not bad at all.”

His counterpart Calisto Pasuwa was happy with the result and has called for consistency from his team.

The win saw the Glamour Boys move into fourth place with 16 points and trail log leaders Highlanders by three points.

“I think we didn’t play well in the first half. We were leaving too much in the midfield. We managed to improve as the game progressed,” Pasuwa said.

“We were much better in the second half as we played as a unit.

“I am pleased as the goal came in open play and from a striker for that matter. We still need to work hard, however, on our finishing. The encouraging thing is that we are creating those chances.”
