ZC reduces provincial contracts

HARARE - Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has reduced the number of provincial contracts to nine players per each of the five franchises, the Daily News has established.

Under the association’s nationwide restructuring exercise, the rest of players in the franchise sides will be remunerated on earn-as-you-play basis.

And as part of the cost-cutting measures, ZC has also trimmed down the number of development coaches from 14 to nine in the Mashonaland Eagles franchise.

The other four franchises have five slots reserved for development coaches.

“ZC despatched the contracts to the franchise managements last Friday,” said a source.

“The association has also increased the development coaches’ salaries from a paltry gross of $182 to a minimum of $400 and they have also reduced salaries for those coaches who were paid more than their colleagues.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Under-18 coach Walter Chawaguta has named his squad for the Easterns Festival in Benoni, South Africa, set for July. The festival will run from July 2-6.

Country Club batsman Eddie Byrom will captain the side.
