CAPS United break Dynamos jinx

HARARE - CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro yesterday was overwhelmed by emotion after watching his team breaking Dynamos’s five year dominance in the National Army Charities semi-final with a 1-0 win.

Dominic Mukandi scored the only goal for CAPS to pile pressure on Dynamos who have now gone for four games without a win.

CAPS came into the match with pressure to end their jinx, having last beaten their cross town rivals since 2009.

Magwiro believed that the win will gave them confidence going into their next league match and believe it will be the start of a new chapter in as far as the Harare derby is concerned.

“It was a good game for us we managed to utilize our chance, it is good for us and our fans to win against Dynamos,” Mangwiro said after the match.

“I am very happy to win this game, it was a closely contested game but we managed to break Dynamos’ dominance

“I think this win will give us confidence going into our league matches as you know some were thinking that I am sympathetic to Dynamos but this win will prove those critics wrong.

“Records are meant to be broken, today was a good day for us. It feels good to beat Dynamos,” added Mangwiro

Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro lamented his team’s poor run of form.

"We gave away a soft goal, CAPS dominated the game in the first half but in the second half we played better than them. We wasted numerous chances.

"We are definitely worried about the team’s recent poor performance we need to go back to the drawing board and start working on our mistakes.”

CAPS started the match brightly.  They controlled the midfield and got the goal in 36th minute after Mukandi scored with a long range shot.

Dynamos, who were missing their coach Calisto Pasuwa who is on national duty, came from the break mounting wave after wave of attack but the Green Machine’ keeper Jorum Muchambo remained steadfast, thwarting several DeMbare raids.

Dynamos could have gone level a minute from fulltime but a beautifully taken long range shot by Tafadzwa Rusike was tipped over the bar by Muchambo.

CAPS: Jorum Muchambo, Dominic Mukandi, David Chipala, Stephen Makatuka, Asani Nhongo, Moses Muchenje Gerald Phiri, Pervington Zimunya (Godknows Mangani ,69m), Leonard Fiyado (Ashward Phiri, 86m), Dominic Chungwa.

My heart bleeds for Dynamos, they are on a losing track, they need to come up with a lasting solution to avoid a further fall. Dynamos is championship material, the excitement of the game has gone.
