Designer plans nationwide tour

HARARE - Znzorzi Adby, a local designer who showcased his designs for the first time at this year’s edition of Hifa, says he will be taking his collection on a nationwide tour.

Adby unveiled the line, A Blue Blooded World, which he says is all about royalty and women looking and feeling good.

He works with two assistants.

“We are planning on starting tours, this July, for this collection,” said the final year student at Chinhoyi University of Technology.

“We start with Harare in places where all the rich women meet and show them the pieces we have.

“Then we will move to Victoria Falls where all the tourists are and we make it a splash, make it beautiful. The collection is very resort as well; it’s very function-like, very church-like. “I know it’s never been done before here in Zimbabwe but designers in other countries do it.

“When a designer launches a new collection in New York, they promote it nationwide. That’s what we want to introduce to the country

“The pieces have a historical bearing, and the designer says he drew inspiration from as far as Persia. “I was inspired by the lives that the blue bloods live, they are aristocrats, wealthy and very powerful families.

“It’s a life of excess and access to the most beautiful things on earth, the most beautiful things that the human mind has ever thought of.

“I was like, okay, women love beautiful things, so they are blue bloods in a way, so how can we give it to them?

“So this is how it came to be. The roots of the collection originate from the upper class of Persia. They used to be worn by royal members of the society, and would be given as presents to visitors.”

Znzorzi has worked with one of the best African designers from South Africa.

After spending a year working with the only African designer with a slot at New York Fashion Week, I look back and say ‘it will be a miracle if I fail.’

“I know the statement sounds presumptuous but it’s mainly because of what I learnt and the powerful people I made contacts with. The fact that I was working at an Haute Couture Fashion House that is international; everything is made and done to the highest level of perfection.

“I learnt everything from the importance of iconography to brand building and fashion conceptualisation.
