Rebel MPs to ditch Biti

HARARE - Seven renegade MDC MPs, who initially joined the Tendai Biti renewal camp, are on their way back to the main formation led by Morgan Tsvangirai after Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda indicated on Thursday he had no powers to save their jobs, the Daily News can reveal.

The Daily News is reliably informed that informal talks were taking place between seven of the legislators who had earlier sided with expelled party secretary-general Biti.

Already, the MDC has directed those willing to return to the party to make formal requests.

Nelson Chamisa, the party organising secretary confirmed the developments but refused to divulge names of the seven legislators.

“In line with the ‘big tent’ approach of our president (Morgan Tsvangirai), we are saying even those who were misled to attend the Mandel conference, the door is open. We value loyalty and membership, those who feel that they went there accidentally, we are taking them back,” said Chamisa.

In a statement, Luke Tamborinyoka, Tsvangirai’s spokesperson, who is doubling as the director of information in MDC says they are now going to recall the rebel MPs riding on the letter from Mudenda.

“The response by Speaker Mudenda leaves the door open for the MDC to exercise its power of recall according to chapter 129(k) of the Constitution. Therefore, the party is going to proceed with recalling those Members of Parliament that no longer belong to it,” reads part of the statement.

With their jobs now on the line, the runaway MPs are reportedly keen on a return to the party, a move that could further expose Biti.

Jacob Mafume, spokesperson of the renewal team however, said the MPs were not going anywhere since they never left the party.

“The thing is that they never left the party MDC, (Morgan) Tsvangirai was suspended, but this is what a village bully always does when he is cornered, he takes the victim aside and asks for forgiveness and then tells people that the victim is asking to be forgiven,” said Mafume.

Mudenda washed his hands off the MDC debacle effectively directing the warring parties to the country’s courts —  a move that both parties are unwilling to take.

“What other letter do they want to write, the Speaker has made it clear that it is an internal matter, as for us we are not going to court, they can go because they want MPs expelled,” said Mafume.

In his letter to the august House, Biti claimed that only he as the bona fide  secretary-general of the MDC can write a letter recalling legislators and yesterday the main opposition claimed that the “Speaker Mudenda has refused to aid Biti’s sinister move of a Parliament coup. He has in fact, educated Biti that in circumstances where he intends to overturn and over-throw an obtaining legal order; Parliament is not the appropriate platform.”

“As such, the Speaker of Parliament has not made a ruling endorsing Biti’s position, neither has he ruled that Biti is the sole communicator with Parliament,” reads the MDC statement.

TYPICAL OF THE SHAMELESS DAILY NEWS PAPER'S HEADLINE CAMPAGNING FOR THE HUMPTY DUMPTY FORMER PRIME MINISTER TSVANGIRAI'S FORMATION. WHAT CREDIBLE EVIDENCE HAS THE DIRTY DAILY NEWS THAT A NUMBER OF REBELS ARE GOING TO REJOIN THE DISCREDITED FORMATION. WHETHER ONE LIKES IT OR NOT, THE ONCE-UPON-TIME PRIME MINISTER , TSVANGIRAI'S LEADERSHIP OF HIS SELF-TITLED PARTY HAS BEEN SHAKEN TO ITS FILTHY ROOTS. INTERESTINGLY ONE OF HIS STAUNCHEST HENCHMEN OBERT GUTU HAS WISELY CAUTIONED THE DIMWIT TSVANGIRAI NOT TO TAKE THE ISSUE TO THE COURT WHOSE OUTCOME MAY BE BOMB SHELL. IN THIS DRAMA THE BIGGEST WINNER IS ZANU- PF FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

Tsvangirai muchina muhombe, vana Biti vana vadiki. Come back to the fold, you will die in the wilderness.

Donald Mushomga - 11 May 2014

Its idiots like you who one day will cry the loudest that Tsvangirai has overstayed his welcome at the presidency, but then again the wilderness you talk about seems to be being in opposition politics for time immemorial. Maybe this dumb head was never meant to lead this country.

Zimbabweans let us be careful not to create another Mugabe in Tsvangirai or any leader in the MDC.This party was our only hope in dealing with the regime.None should be bigger than the party.Leaders will come and go in MDC but the party should remain standing strong.Let us create a culture of passing on the button in MDC.The constitution has to be implemented as it is without fear or favour. Please stop washing your dirty linen in the public use appropriate fora to address any issues.Be mature. We do not want any people who rent thugs to intimidate those with proactive minds.Discuss issues without fear in the MDC for the good of the general public. Also remember that it is difficult to separate your personal lives with politics therefore behave in a mature manner you leaders of the people in all areas of your lives.May god help you.

It has taken many people some time to work out, but it is a now clear to all that this @Rubbish Nyundo is a fanatic Tsvangirai supporter! He clearly spares no time to talk about Tsvangirai all the time, while faking opposition to the MDC leader. Needless to say too, he is Daily News' number one reader and follower. There is not one main Daily News story that you won't find "blessed" by Rubbish Nyundo, and always it's about his favourite politician Tsvangirai!

Kamba - 11 May 2014

Did Biti and his colleagues take a reasonable and rational decision to rebel against MDC leader Morgan? Only time will tell. The indicators are that some of his friends are chickening out thinking about how they are going to put bread on the table should they be recalled from the August house and become an additional aspects of unemployment statistics. They are now worried. Some illusionists may still think that Tendai is a perfect replacement of current leader of the MDC, but how much does this man know of grassroots politics. Is not a boy born and bred somewhere in Harare without any clue or knowledge of problems and predicaments faced by a poor gentleman in Tsholotsho or lady I Zvimba who sees no hope in the next day. Biti under-estimated his power and influence. He woke up to reality when his rally was attended by 50 (+/-) people. I bet this is the lowest attendance in the history of all rallies ever took place in motherland regardless of the party. The wise ones of those who regarded Bit as a messiah now realise that he is not a man who can secure their jobs let alone lead them to another level. It could be true that they may be going back to MDC, but how will they save as honest members. It would appear as though they concerned about themselves than nation. Let them come back, but will need to monitor their activities as they could be pain in butty

The Daily News is making a fool of itself by fighting in Tsvangirai at every opportunity. Is the Daily News editor hoping to take over Douglas Mwonzora's post given that Mwonzora will soon be the organizing secretary of MDC-Tsvangirai? We want impartial reporting and proper headlines of stories Mr Editor. Stop fooling around!

Albert Nyoni - 12 May 2014

daily news,we can see through your nonsense.

Mhanduwe - 12 May 2014

Biti is exactly what his name means, second grade beer!!! We will never be fooled by these greedy people calling themselves "renewal team". Congress is in October 2014 and if provinces do not want Morgan Tsvangirai, this is the day that all should come out guns blazing in booting him out. We do not want the route that Mbiti and his gullible idiots have taken.

Vahombe - 12 May 2014

Just looking for survival these fake MPs!

Cool - 12 May 2014

THIS KIND OF PARTISAN REPORTING FROM DAILY NEWS IS UNACCEPTABLE

chii ichocho? - 12 May 2014

If it is true that these MPs want to come back then it just shows that they are greedy opportunists who only care about themselves and nobody else. They should not bother standing as candidates in the next election ,they have exposed themselves for the selfish people that they are and I hope Tsvangirai watches them with a close eye from now on. They are not his comrades in arms, they are sellouts.

Dr Know - 12 May 2014

zimbos are poor decision makers, they easily forget and get carried away without making rational decision and they make emotional decisions. The question is " If Tsvangirai must go, then the whole of the MDC presidium ( including Biti) must also leave office because they were in the same boat with Tsvangirai from the beginning, and they were part of the negotiations, even in the inclusive Govt" -why Tsvangirai only? Biti and Mangoma should be man enough to take the blame as well and take the first steps down to pave way for new leadership because they have failed collectively. And Lets not blame DAILY NEWS for good reporting.....They are just telling you as it is...Even The Herald too.

To Biti, Mafume, Nkomo, and all the think-alike, what makes you think that you will fare differently from Welshman Ncube's fiasco? I wish Zvobgo was alive, he would have re-told what he said he once experienced during his visit to Ngamohuru psychiatric hospital. The mental inmates were all in their hall of residence. He entered and locked the door. while inside, he moved next to the wall and used a chalk to nicely draw the shape of a 'new' closed door. He then told the inmates that the purpose of his visit was to free everyone so that you go back home. "you are to go out using this new door I have drawn on the wall. Please go". There was a stampede as the inmates (Welshman Ncube, P Misihairabwi, Sibanda, Chaibva, etc) tried to go out through a non-existent door. Only one inmate (Biti) sat down laughing his heart out at the unfolding drama. The authorities (Tsvangirayi) thought this man had regained his reasoning ability. They asked him, 'why are you laughing at those that are trying to go out using the new door' - they asked. He replied: "these chaps do not know that I am the one holding the key for the 'new' door, the inmate replied". This last statement is what Biti is really thinking.

Yes certain MPs have now realised that they were taken for a ride by self glory seekers & traitors. They may be forgiven. It is simply incorrect to say, DAILY NEWS is biased against BT& his gang of misguided followers. We know some ZPF followers are not happy that BT is not so successful & now they turn agaist the innocent DAILY NEWS newspaper. The DAILY NEWS reports what it sees,NOT what ZPF wants to hear or read like the Herald & Sunday Mail. These are sworn gvt mouth pieces!!

Spooky journalism! This not news but a speculative opinion piece. By the way Mudenda did not say Tsvangirai can recall the mps from parliament but that he should go to court. Any half-wit can see what this means. Recalling won't be possible. Daily News stop this Boarder Gezi journalism.

Kondo - 13 May 2014

The issue of what to do about the renewal rebels is being handled with the blunder-ing indecisiveness the nation has come to expect from Tsvangirai. The issue is simple enough; did the rebels have constitutional power and authority to summarily expel Tsvangirai and those who had remained loyal to him from the party and take over. From the face of it, the rebels did not have constitutional power; so why is Tsvangirai paralyzed into indecision. Take the matter to the courts and let them decide once and for all. Tsvangirai is "a flawed and indecisive character" said former US Ambassador to Zimbabwe (2004 to 2007) Chris Dell all those years ago. Indeed Zimbabwe was to see just how indecisive Tsvangirai was over the years and the nation the nation has paid dearly for his blundering indecision. For it was Tsvangirai's failure to implement the reforms that has allowed Mugabe to rig the 2013 elections and return to power with the disastrous consequences we see all around in Zimbabwe today.

Wilbert Mukori - 13 May 2014

President of the MDC-T was voted into office by the CONGRESS n wl b re-elected or rejected by the same organ. Bitio as a lawyer is just misleading others who do not realise his shocking tendences. The bottom line is people can write whatever they like in newspapers, but the reality on the ground is there for everyone to see. Why do people like Tendai want short-cuts instead of selling their ideas at congress n then get positions on merit n not through a coup. Tendai n co ur project is just still-born. Fight for position within the party n get recognition. Rebelling wl definitely leave u in the wilderness. U hv bn warned n advised, take heed.
