HARARE - Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa will have to fight to save his job in a crucial meeting with the club’s executive scheduled for tomorrow.
The club’s executive was scheduled to meet with the coach to discuss the Glamour Boys’ recent slump that has seen them fail to win two of their last Castle Premiership matches.
Pasuwa, who led Dynamos to a record breaking three league titles on the trot, has come under increasing pressure after the 1-0 defeat to Buffaloes at the weekend which was preceded by another 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chapungu last Thursday.
In six matches, the defending league champions have also picked up nine points from a possible 18.
Despite these three loses, Dynamos are only three points behind log leaders Highlanders and still have a good chance of defending their title.
Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa confirmed tomorrow’s meeting saying that they want to discuss how the club can start picking up wins consistently.
“The executive have not met as yet but the truth of the matter is that we are not happy with the way things are going so far,” Mubaiwa said. “We are going to meet the coach on Wednesday.
“We might be three points away from the leading teams but the team is not playing well. There is no consistency at all and you wonder whether we are improving or not.
“We will sit as an executive and see how best we can save the team if we dream of retaining the championship. Dynamos have a culture of winning and what is happening now is not good at all.”
Speculation has been rife that the executive is sabotaging Pasuwa’s plans as they intend to force him out of the club, a notion rejected by Mubaiwa.
“Now we hear people say the executive is sabotaging the team. That’s some of things we want hear from the coach himself,” he said. “In as far as I am concerned we are doing all that we can to provide the resources for the team.
“As the executive we are doing all we can for the players and the technical team. This is just an excuse and all this is not true. Dynamos is one of the few teams that camp in almost every game.”
According to a source inside the club said the executive is likely to give Pasuwa a three-game ultimatum or else he will be sacked.
Pasuwa needs to win his next three matches against Shabanie Mine, FC Platinum and Chiredzi to protect his job according to the source.
“The executive is not happy with the inconsistency of the team in the six games played so far and Pasuwa could fall by the wayside anytime soon if he does not get his act together,” said the source.
“They are worried about the number of points recorded by the coach and as a measure to check this low productivity, has given him the ultimatum to win next three games or face sanctions”
The executive is allegedly mooting plans to replace Pasuwa with former coach David Mandigora, who is now the DeMbare vice-chairman.
