Mountaineers complete double

MUTARE - Mountaineers clinched their second domestic cricket title of the season with a seven-wicket over Southern Rocks in a Pro 50 Championship final at Mutare Sports Club yesterday.

After bagging the Logan Cup title last week, the Mountaineers Goats were determined to wrap up the season in style and the platform was well set by Tendai Chatara’s four wickets early in the match.

The Goats chose to field and were able to restrict Rocks to 174 all out after 48.3 overs with spinner Natsai Mushangwe complimenting seamer Chatara with two wickets.

Tailender Tendai Chisoro was unbeaten on 42 runs while Luke Jongwe weighed in with 32 runs batting at middle order as the home team tightened up the screws.

Timycen Maruma’s unbeaten half century (69) saw the Mountaineers clinch the Pro 50 Championship with 65 balls remaining scoring 178 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Hamilton Masakadza was caught and bowled by Roy Kaia for 39 while Rocks spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi picked two wickets.
