Gondo raises DeMbare's hopes

HARARE - with a top drawer performance on Sunday, there is now a strong feeling amongst Dynamos faithful that newboy Anesu Gondo could be the answer to the club’s striking woes.

Gondo was the star of the show for the Glamour Boys after he scored a brace that powered DeMbare to the top of the log this season with a 3-1 win over struggling Harare City.

The former Tripple B and Extension Gunners forward in Botswana arrived at the Harare giants as an unknown entity but he announced his arrival with an impressive display giving City defenders a torrid time.

Playing only his second Premiership match for DeMbare since his arrival, Gondo rose high and planted a firm header from a Ronald Chitiyo corner kick to give Dynamos the lead after only four minutes.

City rallied back to equalise through captain Nathan Ziwiwi in the 13th minute and from there on it was a tight match between the two sides.

Gondo finally sealed his mark on the game with a second goal late in the second half to pave the way for DeMbare’s third win after four matches.

The second goal was as a result of pure hard work and determination from the forward after he hustled and hurried City defenders Crispen Dickson and Arnold Chivheya before slotting the ball past Nomore John.

Dickson and Chivheya are two strong defenders but Gondo showed his good athleticism to get goal side of the defenders to create the scoring opportunity.

The forward was evidently delighted after the game and has set his sights on helping DeMbare winning an unprecedented fourth league title on a row.

“I feel very happy to score two goals. These are my first matches at the team and getting two goals will only help in encouraging me going forward,” Gondo told the Daily News.

“I am working hard; there is a lot of competition at Dynamos. I wouldn’t want to set myself a target as yet but my immediate goal is to help the team retain the championship.

“It’s not every day that you get a chance to play for Dynamos. I want to repay my coaches for showing confidence in me by scoring many goals.”

Calisto Pasuwa, who was increasingly getting worried with his strikers’ form after the forwards had fired blanks in league action in their opening three league matches, was also delighted by Gondo’s contribution.

“He is one of the players whom we are registered to play and it’s a plus for the team. Obviously it increases our attacking options. Hope he will maintain the scoring form,” said the DeMbare coach.
