Lady Bee blasts double standards

HARARE - Controrvesial reggae dancehall singer Brenda Bechani, also known as Lady Bee, has castigated people labelling her music dirty while tolerating similar lyrics by male chanters.

Lady Bee has had little or no play on local radio because of her explicit content. Her music is only found on social networks such as Facebook and Youtube. She is popular in the underground music circles for her dirty lyrics. She has released equally raunchy videos to go along with her unconventional music.

She made reference to Soul Jah Love’s Gumkum and some of Killa T’s dirty songs receiving airplay while she is censored.

“Kana ana Gumkum naana Killer T vachiridzwa paradio ini ndinotadza kuridzwa sei? Vangori vanhu vanoda kuti zvinhu zvinetse izvo zvisinganetse, chasiyana ipapa chii? (If songs like Gumkum can be played on radio what stops my songs from being played? I think its just people who want to cause confusion. My music deserves to be played on radio as well).

“I have some songs that can be played on radio and some that cannot be played. The reason why I do that is because I have fans who want the one that cannot be played on radio and I cannot abandon them. The clean songs are also for the family shows that I perform at, I am versatile,” she said.

She cited the song Muzambara, a gospel song which she recorded as an example of clean music. When she released Muzambara, she vowed not to go back to her old ways but seems to have changed her mind.

She previously told the Daily News that she had realised that dirty music but was not getting her anyway, but has backtracked, saying the world is being unfair on her.

Lady Bee has a variety of other controversial songs like Mupunduru, Ndauya Nemoto, Murume, Bumukuru, Jekiseni, to mention just but a few.

Lady-Bee should not cry foul as her muzik is utter rubbish and does not merit airplays on any radio station on this planet. she sings obscenities in Shona and expect airplay. Like many of her equally talent-less friends in the dancehall arena, she should grow up or be forgotten soon
