Hifa to feature quality designs, local swag

HARARE - This year’s edition of Hifa 2014 will see different designs from Vintage to High Fashion being showcased.

The Hifa Fashion Festival is a celebration of high quality design and local swag.

Over the last few years, Hifa has become an important platform for fashion and style.

The festival is also an unrivalled opportunity to purchase the finest Zimbabwean craft and intriguing pieces from designers pushing the boundaries of wearable and conceptual design.

The Hifa Fashion Festival aims to put the fun and theatre back into fashion and design.

Models for many of the shows will be artists appearing in Hifa’s dance, theatre and music programmes.

The stunning venue (Fashion Dome) offers a heady mix of fascinating shows, shopping, networking, and glamorous daily social happenings. The fashion shows will be taking place throughout the week until Sunday. They are listed below.

Vintage Wedding

National Ballet Dancers model vintage-inspired bridal couture in a showcase of fashion and romance. Collection is by LonCrae Couture.

The shows will be on Wednesday, April 30 and Saturday, May 3.

Accessory Show

Featuring artists from Zimbabwe presenting spectacular handmade accessories all available for sale in the Royal Norwegian Embassy Global Quarter. The shows will be on Thursday, May 1, Friday May, 2 and Saturday, May 3.

Man Fashion

Showcasing men’s fashion in a show featuring several of the hottest male artists appearing at the Festival.

The clothes are by designers from Harare and Bulawayo as well as stunning wearable pieces by William Bobongo from France. The shows will be on Wednesday, April 30 and Friday, May 2.

Hifa Kids

Trendy kids are in the house to showcase the coolest Zimbabwean collections.

The shows will be on Tuesday, April 29, Thursday, May 1 and Sunday, May 4.

High Fashion

Haute Couture and Avant Garde collections from local designers and visiting Botswana designer, Aobakwe Molosiwa.

The shows will be on Wednesday, May 30, Thursday, May 1, Saturday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.

Trash Queen Presents: Fossil Fuel

Trash Queen 2014 imagines a world without oil through poetry and an arresting show.

Audiences’ favourite creation will be auctioned in the final show. The shows will be on Tuesday, April 29, Friday, May 2 and Sunday, May 4.

Fashion Walkabout

Models wearing designs from a mixture of Hifa Fashion Festival shows wander the site in search of public interaction (feel the quality of this fabric!) and fashionable chatter.
