Murwira's wonder strikes sink Rhinos

ZVISHAVANE - Shabanie Mine right-back Godknows Murwira scored a memorable brace to propel his team to a 2-0 win over Black Rhinos in a Castle Premiership match at Maglas Stadium.

Murwira, who joined the asbestos miners from Monomotapa this year, got his first goal in the 45th minute with a blistering shot from outside the box after Merson Nelson was brought down by Shadreck Jimu.

Murwira capped the his fine afternoon after going on a solo run on 66 minutes before releasing another scorching shot to beat Black Rhinos goalkeeper Jonathan Zvaita.

“I want to thank my teammates for the support because it made me enjoy my game. I am settling well at Shabanie and the goals give me confidence,” said Murwira,

Rhinos, who lost to Chapungu last week, were not really in the game, relying on long balls which did little to trouble the hosts.

Shabanie coach John Phiri was elated with the win, coming as it did after last weekend’s 4-1 loss to Highlanders.

“I am very happy for my players because they managed to rise from the defeat at Highlanders to win this match,” he said.

“They showed so much determination to win and we were rewarded. We need to win our first games of the season so that we don’t end up fighting against relegation. Remember we are building a new team.”

Rhinos coach Arthur Tutani was left to heap praise on Shabanie two-goal hero Murwira.

“Wonder goals like the ones scored by him deserve to win any match and they dully won it. We started slowly, allowing Shabanie to take the game to us. I am disappointed because we were never really into this match.”
