Four Telecel subscribers on road to Brazil 2014

HARARE - Four Telecel subscribers on Wednesday booked their places at the 2014 Fifa World Cup after they were presented with tickets to the football jamboree by the mobile operator.

The World Cup will run from June 12 to July 13 in Brazil.

Sophia Muchechetere, Dumisani Dumisani, Victor Chakasikwa and Loyed Chakanyuka are part of eight lucky winners who entered the Go to Brazil Bhora promotion and ultimately negotiated the lottery.

Their trip will see the mobile network operator cover expenses ranging from air tickets, visa application costs and hotel accommodation.

The winners will also get “generous” spending money during the highly anticipated world football showpiece.

Twelve other subscribers walked away with rich earnings after they were presented with cash prizes of $500 each.

The 12 include Barnabas Chitsomba, Deggen Dewah, Joseph Makina, Kudakwashe Hondo, Leonard Nyabonde, Leslie John, Moja Lusaka, Ponayi Sithole, Precious Bhasera, Sasha Mandaza, Wegner Marange and Zamir Magid.

Telecel marketing director, Octivious Kahiya, presenting the winners with their prizes at a press conference in Harare, said the campaign personified the mobile operator’s drive to connect its customers to the world.

“Weekly prizes, four tickets, air fares, hotel accommodation and a generous spending money,” Kahiya said.

“This is Telecel. This is what we do. We want people to interact across countries.”

Ashraf El Guindy, Telecel’s chief commercial officer, said four more all-expenses paid trips to the football fiesta will be drawn at a later stage.

Other prizes such as world cup jerseys, Sony handsets, airtime, weekly cash prizes of $500 and monthly prizes of $10 000 are also up for grabs in the promotion that runs until August 8.

“We have lots of prizes valued at over $200 000 to go,” he said.

“We just have to spread the word of mouth, ‘Try Telecel, play the game’ so that we have more friends and relatives going to Brazil.”

To participate in the promotion, pre-paid subscribers send a text message with the letter “B” to 33330.

The subscribers then receive points every time they recharge with the more airtime loaded for calls, increasing the chances of winning.
