Ali Sadiki in maintenance row

HARARE - FC Platinum midfielder Ali Sadiki has been dragged before the Harare Civil Court by his girlfriend demanding more than $1 000 in child support.

Sadiki’s girlfriend Sharon Chiwanza claims the footballer neglected her and the child after she fell pregnant again for him.

Chiwanza told magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami that Sadiki refuses to maintain his child but earns a lot of money.

She demanded $600 for her own upkeep saying she was eight months pregnant and $517 for the upkeep of his five-year-old daughter and unborn child, totalling $1 117.

“Respondent (Sadiki) had access to me during the conceptive period of both the minor child and the unborn baby,” Chiwanza said.

“He neglected and refused to maintain his child despite having the ability to offer reasonable maintenance for his child. The minor child is now in Grade 0.

“Sadiki has also neglected to cater for the welfare of his unborn child and I am currently eight months pregnant.”

However, the Warriors midfielder did not dispute the claim.

Instead, he pleaded with the court to postpone the matter to Tuesday saying he wanted time to look for a defence attorney.

“I need time to look for a lawyer because I have just arrived from Shabanie and I have received the summons a few hours ago,” Sadiki said.

Chiwanza further told the court the footballer was in a position to pay the money since he earns a lot of money every month.

“He plays football for FC Platinum and earns $800 on each won match as bonus. He also plays for the national squad where he gets paid another $800 together with camping allowances,” Chiwanza said.

“He was recently in Malawi with the national squad where he got paid $800,” she added.

Magistrate Muvhami postponed the matter to Tuesday to allow Sadiki to get a defence attorney.
