Open Letter to Cuthbert Dube

EDITOR — Dube, let me start by congratulating you for winning the much-awaited Zifa elections last Saturday.

I hope I find you in great spirits and ready to begin your second spell at the helm of Zimbabwean football.

Let me not get too excited about your re-election and remind you of things the football public will not forget easily.

It is public knowledge that in the past few months you have been in the media for your part in the so-called Salarygate scandal.

It is also in the public domain that your failures at the helm of local football far outweigh your successes such that even those with rudimentary knowledge of Zimbabwean football reminisce the past four years of your leadership with shame.

The way you handled the Asiagate scandal, the way you disappointed the Young Warriors in 2012, the way you failed to fundraise for the national team and photos showing you in the media always behind your desk than at our football stadia are the only memories we have of your days at Zifa House.

You simply should have resigned in shame from the Zifa leadership. You should not even have been part of the Zifa election.

Fortunately for you, thank your gods, they must be crazy. This world is not anywhere near perfect.

As such, you, me and the football-crazy fans should not worry too much about your checkered past. We cannot change the past but we can define the future.

As I write this article, I cannot help but think about Henry Ford’s famous quote; “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”

Good luck getting sponsors this year. I wouldn't think they'd want to put their money close to you! Dont bother going to Econet, I know Strive wouldn't give you a cent
