Drags Racing Series kicks off

HARARE - The Telecel 2014 Drag Racing Series is set to get underway this Sunday at Donnybrook with Dragpro Club secretary Susan Zevgolis anticipating huge strides for the fledgling motorsport this year.

Since returning to the local motorsport radar two years ago, Drag Racing has steadily gained popularity and accessibility through the support of partners, Telecel and hp lubes/Castrol.

And Zevgolis believes this year’s series will continue to attract large numbers of racing fans and competitors.

“The Dragpro Club Drag Racing Series provides an opportunity to members of the public to race their vehicles in a controlled environment whilst at the same time striving to better their personal reaction times and race times,” she said.

“It is very encouraging to note that times of cars and motorcycles have come down noticeably since our first event in January 2012, a sign that competitors are becoming passionate about the sport and taking their racing seriously.

“Drag Racing provides something for both the serious competitor and the men or women off the street wanting to have some fun.”

The motor racing sport is set for a major face-lift this year.

“As the Dragpro Club continues in its pursuits to elevate the sport, we will be introducing both a national championship and a club championship where competitors will be awarded points in their respective classes so as to determine the ultimate 2014 Drag Racing Champions,” Zevgolis said.
