How Mine off to Nigeria

BULAWAYO - How Mine head coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube is confident his side will get a positive result in their African Confederations Cup second round, second leg encounter against Bayelsa United in Nigeria this Saturday.

Speaking to the Daily News just before the gold miners jetted out of the country yesterday afternoon for Johannesburg, South Africa, from where they will get a connecting flight to Nigeria, Ncube said his charges would seek to unsettle their opponents with an early goal.

“We know we have a big task ahead of us but we have played Bayelsa here and we know how they play.

“All we are going to do is to attack from the onset and try and get an early goal but we will not throw caution to the wind and need to be very be cautious,” Ncube said.

Chikurupati have kept their faith in the team that did duty for them in the first leg encounter and will be hoping their chief striker Kuda Musharu will return to his scoring ways after failing to find the target last weekend.

How Mine beat Bayelsa 2-1 at Barbourfields with their goals coming from Morris Kadzola and Mernard Mupera while the Nigerians scored through Bernard Okorowanta.

Musharu has six games to his name so far in this year’s competition.

Getting a crucial away goal must have inflated the egos of the Nigerians as after the match some of their officials boasted to local journalists that their team would wallop How Mine 3-0 in the reverse fixture but Ncube thinks otherwise.

“We have prepared adequately and nothing will stop us from bringing back a good result,” he said.

How Mine will have to be mentally prepared for the mind games that they are likely to be subjected to by the Nigerians who eliminated Congo Brazzaville’s AS Kondzo in the previous round.

Chikurupati encountered some mental warfare before their tie first round, second leg tie away to St Michel of Seychelles but managed to pull through to the second round.
