Jilted lover frames rape charges

HARARE - An ex-convict yesterday told a Harare Civil Court that his girlfriend falsely got him arrested for rape.

Simbarashe Mudhuru told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that his girlfriend Privilege Gwatidzo reported him to the police after he told her he no longer loved her after discovering love messages from another man on her mobile phone.

Mudhuru, who was seeking a protection order against Gwatidzo, claims she was refusing to have the affair terminated.

“We were in a relationship with Privilege and I asked her if our love affair was going to last after I discovered love messages on her phone,” Mudhuru said.

“She was exchanging love messages with her ex-boyfriend and the two wanted to reconcile. We then broke up and she reported me to the police, saying I had raped her.’’

Mudhuru, the court heard, had been in prison for 10 years. He begged the court to evict Gwatidzo, saying she was refusing to leave his house.

Gwatidzo refuted her boyfriend’s allegations. She said the two loved each other but the main problem was that her parents did not accept Mudhuru because he was an ex-convict.

Magistrate Siwardi dismissed Mudhuru’s application for a protection order.

She said eloping was part of traditional marriage so if he wanted to end the affair with Gwatidzo, he should do it the traditional way.

But let's be serious here. Did the guy go to prison for rape? Was it for raping the same woman? So how can he be imprisoned for raping a woman who clearly is still in love with him and says they are in a relationship? Or is she saying becoz she was raped then he is now her husband? So how can she report her husband and get him sent away for 10 years? Are these magistrates trained at all? Elope yapinda papi apa? Panemimba here?

Omuhle - 25 March 2014

U got it all wrong omuhle, the cour appearance this time around was for protection order not for rape. The rape sentence was served already now they are stay staying together but the guy doesnt want, he wants an eviction/protection order from the magistrate. At times the way thsese people report is not clear

Mafirakureva - 25 March 2014

I agree with you Mafirakureva i also got confued like Omuhle. Let me say i didnt even get the storyline i only saw names of people and words in between the names of people. Whats the issue here? This is poor reporting.
