Omo launch World Cup promotion

HARARE - Unilever, through their brand Omo, has launched the 2014 Football World Cup promotion dubbed “Wash-fly” to Brazil at Donnybrook primary school on Saturday.

"We as Unilever, we have been part of Zimbabwe for over 60 years and have always taken pride in making our brands part of communities we live," Juliet Ziswa, the Unilever Marketing Director, said.

In conjunction with the World Cup promotion, Unilever also launched junior five a-side tournament with Mabvuku-based Tsinhirano primary school being crowned the inaugural winners while Batanai and Tafara 5 finished in second and third position respectively.

"We know football is a passion point for the Zimbabwean society. We saw that a lot still needs to be done in order to nurture young talent. We therefore would like our brand Omo to have a part to play in the development of young stars,'' Ziswa said.

"Five a-side competitions will be rolled out national wide and it's an on-going programme and our aim is to unleash potential. We believe that it is important to let the children get dirty so they can learn and Omo will remove those tough stains.”

The event was graced by various soccer legends who included Brenna Msisika, Stewart Murisa, Gilbert Mushangazhike, Tonderai Ndiraya, Alois Bunjira, Desmond Maringwa, Lloyd Chitembwe and Rosemary Mugadza.

"The event was very important because if you need to be produce good footballers as a country you need to concentrate on junior development," Chitembwe said.
