Jilted husband stabs wife

HARARE - A Harare man stabbed his wife with a screwdriver after a heated argument, a Harare court heard.

Brian Maponga allegedly stabbed his wife, Sihle Ngwenya on the chest between her breasts, threatening to kill her.

Ngwenya on Friday told Harare Civil Court magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that Maponga physically and verbally abuses her all the time.

She alleges that the main cause of their problems was that she tested HIV negative while her husband  tested positive.

“When he stabbed me, I did not report the matter to the police because I love him,” she said.

“I want him barred from coming where I am staying and I also want him to give me back my children.”

Maponga did not deny his wife’s allegations. He said the main problem was that Ngwenya was in the habit of coming home late at night.

“She goes to parties and comes home late, drunk. If I ask her were she has been, she becomes very violent,” Maponga said.

“She is in the habit of running away from home and this is the sixth time she has run away from home. The children are scared of her violence and sometimes they plead with me not to ask her questions if she comes home late because she becomes very vicious.

“She is also in the habit of having extra marital affairs with commuter omnibus drivers.”

Magistrate Siwardi postponed the matter to today for continuation.
