All set for Troutbeck ATU African Champs

HARARE - Top ITU World Champion Series ranked triathlete Richard Murray is part of an illustrious cast of high profile triathletes set to illuminate the Troutbeck ATU African Triathlon Championships next month.

The championships are set for April 12 in the Eastern Highlands’ lush resort village of Troutbeck.

During the championships, Zimbabwe will host elite and junior athletes from Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Tunisia and South Africa.

Triathlon Zimbabwe president Rick Fulton yesterday encouraged triathlon loving fans to come out and witness some of Africa’s finest triathletes in action.

“World number five Richard Murray (South Africa) will be competing as will November’s Troutbeck winner and two-time winner in 2012 and 2013 Henri Schoeman (from South Africa),” he said.

“At this time, 12 African elite athletes have entered the event for the men’s field.

On the elite women’s side so far, there are nine entries including the current African champion for 2013 Gillian Saunders (South Africa) and veteran world-ranked Kate Roberts (South Africa) who also won November’s Troutbeck event.

A number of categories will be contested at the championships.

These include the Elite U-23 Men and Women, Adult Age Groups from 20 to 65 years, both over the standard distance, Junior U-17 and U-19 and Para-triathlon, both over the sprint distance.”
