Zim 7s in camp for Hong Kong

HARARE - Zimbabwe's Sevens rugby team went into camp on Tuesday in Harare to prepare for the Hong Kong leg of the IRB World Sevens Series, which starts on March 28.

The Hong Kong stopover is part of the qualification process for core membership on the whirlwind nine-legged World Sevens Series circuit.

The Cheetahs will take a number of positives after finishing in second place in the recently held Zimbabwe Invitational Sevens Tournament. The Cheetahs lost to the South African Sevens Academy 21-15 in a pulsating final at Harare Sports Club on Saturday night, but will buoyed after convincing wins over Georgia, Hong Kong and Russia in the tournament.

Despite having finished in sixth place, the Goshawks, Zimbabwe's development side, were able to provide much needed game time to a number of players. A number of these players have been included in the training squad which is camping at the Innovate High Performance Centre. 19 players will train this week before the Zimbabwe Rugby selection committee chose their final 12 players for the Hong Kong trip.

Training squad: Jacques Leitao, Fortune Chipendu, Farai Jijita, Boyd Rouse, Ben Nicholls, Njabulo Ndlovu, Biselele Tshamala, Stephan Hunduza, Kilvan Magunje, Lenience Tambwera, Hilton Mudairiki, Tangai Nemadire, Gardner Nechironga, Riaan O'Neill, Sebastian Roche, Brandon Boshi, Morgan Vangue, Teddy Hwata, Tafadzwa Chitokwindo.
