I am not gagging legislators: Speaker

HARARE - Jacob Mudenda, Speaker of the National Assembly, yesterday said he was not gagging legislators from debating high-level corruption.

Speaking at an awareness seminar for Zimbabwe Agenda For Sustainable Socio- Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) in Harare yesterday,

Mudenda backtracked on his earlier attempts to charge legislators with contempt of Parliament for discussing rampant corruption, saying all legislators agree the number one enemy was the scourge of corruption.

“I will not gag MPs to speak on corruption as they believe I am gagging them,”

Mudenda, who received a wild applause, said.

Vice President Joice Mujuru, who was the guest of honour at the official launch of ZimAsset,  said the blueprint will only succeed when everyone

observed dignity at home and corporate levels.

“Hunhu hunokokosha (A good character is important),” she said.

“We should shun corruption in it all its forms.

“Government is unanimous in its resolve to eradicate this scourge and I urge legislators to support this effort.”

Does this mean charges on Mr Chikwinya have been dropped, if so it's a step in the right direction. However charges should be laid on one Mahachi who arrogantly refuses to comply with parliament's requests.
