MDC suspends Mangoma

HARARE - The opposition MDC has suspended Elton Mangoma, the party's deputy treasurer general, who has been calling for Morgan Tsvangirai's ouster.

The National Council took the decision at a crucial meeting held at Harvest House today, and resolved to refer the matter to a disciplinary tribunal headed by chairman Lovemore Moyo, to give Mangoma and support.

What manner of democracy is in MDC? Is it wrong for a man to air his views? Surely, that national council is full of bootlickers and psuedo men, pple who cant stand for the truth. A man can not be crucified for his views unless if MDC is turning into a dictatorship. shame. we will see each at the ballot box, now we know the real MDC and what it stands for. Am appaled by the lack of tolerance for divergent views. Whose house will be bombed next?

i am extremely plzd with the decision

Zingozi - 7 March 2014

WITHIN THE PREMISES, THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION

Zingozi - 7 March 2014

Heavyweights Elias Mudzuri and Roy Bennet and several others openly called for leadership renewal too, in your face. Muchavaita sei?

taps - 7 March 2014

Good decision. Mangoma and company should learn to respect the party's constitution. There are proper channels which can be followed to renew leadership of the party.

YOU CAN HATE IT AT YOUR OWN PERIL

Zingozi - 7 March 2014

while Mangoma could have been having valid points, he aired them at the wrong forum. He was too excited about his "brilliant" ideas. He could have been used by the other guy to "detonate" / " Explode" the "bomb" which is killing him politically. Wakashandiswa wena.

Dereck - 7 March 2014

Mangoma compromised the party by going public ne nyayaya which could have been deliberated within the part structures. Ndo politics manje Mangoma. Campain from within ... canvassing uchikwira. Waka kurumidza kusimudza musoro.

I HAVE SEEN MAN RISING TO ANGELSHIP. I HAVE SEEN THEN FALLING TOO. MANGOMA'S WAS THE PROVERBIAL GIGANTIC TUMBLE FROM HERO TO ZERO

I am pleased with the decision on this MANGOMA how can you air his views just like that, do the same to Bennet who thinks zimbabwe will be a colony again you are a day dreamer thinks one day will be found on his chimanimani farm, you want change come back to zim.

deeds - 7 March 2014

Clearest indication that democracy is still alien to most Zim politicians. The culture of supremacy and not equality, has been embedded in us, thanks to the political set up that we have experienced since independence. Its not surprising that dissent, becomes insubordination when directed at me, but becomes popular opinion when directed at some one else. Lets not celebrate these kinds of dictatorial tendencies from a party, expected to usher in change for the better, for we are here because of the same.

WiiiiiLiiiiLiiiiiWiiiLiiii Mangoma hambile siyajabula namhlanje plz go for ever do not come back again now we are left with those who had been pushing Mangoma to talk rubbish to be also flushed out haa hamba idiot Mangoma

Dibulaanyika - 7 March 2014

As an anthropologist one can write a book base on mangoma's face, is so explanatory.

deeds - 7 March 2014

@Top heavy you must remember in politics you are governed by your constitution if it say usher in public then we have the wrong constitution, i am not saying mangoma is wrong but he did not follow the root/ was misguided. Thereby he deserves a punshment.

Why creat circus for ZANU pf? A team whose players are shouting at each other is beaten. Follow the rules of your Democratic Movement: 1. Discuss issues within your structures. 2. Exhaust all means to the end 3. Musafugura hapwa munotinhuhwidza 4. Don't rush to newspapers with raw information. 5. Don't seek cheap popularity by means of money. 6. Seek people power. Appeal to them with a sound mind. 7. Don't appeal to donors because you need money. Donors will perish and pass with their money, but leaders who have people on their side will survive the test of time. 8. Don't be pushed by emotions. Emotions will subside like dust that settles after a whirlwind. 9. Don't be swept by the whirlwind, or enjoy the dust within the whirlwind. Unosara pachena chamupupuri chaenda. 10. "Be still, and know that I am the Lord," said the Lord. So be still!!!! ANE NZEVE DZEKUNZWA NGAANZWE!

Its agood decision. l welcome it. You can't destroy a party from within all in the name of democracy. Yes, he was entitled to his own views, but then he had to do it within the party defined parameters, and not going through the media kike he did. How many people have been expelled from other parties for holding views contrary to majority thinking? Now that he has been suspended, it will give him time to introspect or even think of quitting and forming his own breakaway party named MDC Mangoma. The party is larger than Mangoma. He cannot be seen to be flouting the party constitution all in the name of the so called leadership renewal. If he had made his calls within the confines of the constitution and was then booted out, then there was going to be a cause for alarm.

@Seeds, you are right, I accept we need to be governed by our constitution, which I hope in our case has not been altered to suit certain personal ambitions. It has happened before in our democratic party, to accommodate our current president who happens to be the only leader since the party's formation. I pray for your sake and mine, that we have personnel up there that wont alter constitutions to suit their own needs, for these will be the same constitutions to guide us in future.

Mangoma you are right, we are 100% behind you, after all you did not commit a crime, yours was just to call a spade a spade, you did defy outright dictatorial tendencies of Morgan Tsvangirai

Nyamhangambiri - 8 March 2014

Mangoma is Mavhaire and Biti is Zvobgo...Remember when Mavhaire was suspended for saying Mugabe must go and it was said he was fronting for Zvobgo? Same thing here. And 15 years from now when President,Head of State&Gvt and C-I-C of the ZDF His Excellency Cde. M.R. Tsvangirayi is seeking yet another term as President of MDC(PF) supported by Nelson Didymus Chamisa and veterans of the struggle against Mugabe led by Jabulani Obert"obedient son" Gutu we will remember Dzikamai Mangoma as having been one of the first brave souls to stand up to dictatorship in the making... And of course because we never learn and are stupid Zimbabweans will elect another dictator even when the signs(as with Tsvangirayi) are there for all to see.

wezhira wezhara - 8 March 2014

here is a repeat of 2005 split in the making.Tsvangirai n his cronies cannot tolerate political whiz kids of differing opinion in the party.several times they have castigated members whom they have fallen out of favour with at rallies n during media briefings bt have nt bn arraigned b4 DC fr using undesignated platform.its evident now that even welshman ncube ws nt wrong bt ws villified bcoz he dd nt take tsvangirai's dictatorship.democracy has bn slapped on the face by tsvangirai n his cronies

Nokolo - 8 March 2014

By playing into the hands of the opponents of the MDC, Mr Mangoma expelled himself. It is foolhardy to think that anyone who had the national interest and or the MDC interests would have behaved the way he did. I think this will give him and other like minded people time to reflect. The MDC juggernaut is moving on and Captain Tsvangirai is at the helm.

Ndaneta - 8 March 2014

@ Ndaneta chokwadi une shuwa kuti mahumbwe iwaya ndiyo national interest. Unenge wakatodyiswa naTsvngston chete. Morgan is a just rebel without a cause and without his western donors he is nothing. And whats unconstitutional about calling for leadership renewal and which section are you idiots quoting that such calls should not be done in public. Murivagwere chaivo

Yes it's good to discipline and a suspension is a fair outcome. It'll give decision makers to evaluate the sincerity of the culprit (Mangomas) if he forms his party, the cat would have come out of the sack! But to criticize is healthy it all depends when and how you express your criticism. There's an adage that goes something like: "Don't wash your rags in public!"
