Govt's accountant-general dies

HARARE - Judith Madzorera, Zimbabwe’s accountant-general, has died.

She was 51.

A senior official in the ministry of Finance confirmed the development. He said Madzorera passed on early yesterday morning in Harare.

He however, could not give any details on funeral arrangements save to say that mourners were gathered at the deceased’s home in Highlands, Harare.

Madzorera, who succumbed to breast cancer, began her career with the Comptroller and Auditor General’s office and has held several other positions including acting permanent secretary in the ministry of Finance last year.

She also served as vice chairperson and director at Air Zimbabwe and sat on boards of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), CMED and Lotteries and Gaming Board.

Madzorera, who was a member of the Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, held a Master of Business Administration degree from the National University of Science and Technology among other qualifications.
