DeMbare disappoint, How Mine cruise

HARARE – Dynamos and AS Vita played out a goalless draw in their African Champions League first round qualifier at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The two teams now play the second leg of the encounter in Kinshasa next weekend.

TUSSLE: Dynamos forward Washington Pakamisa, left, tries to beat an AS Vita defender during Saturday’s match at the Nationals Sports Stadium.

DeMbare face an uphill task of qualifying for the second round as they now need a favourable result in the second leg.

The Zimbabwe champions will qualify for the second round if they can win or manage a scoring draw in Kinshasa.

The tie will go to a penalty shootout if the second leg ends 0-0.

Dynamos never really hit top gear as they were frustrated by the well-disciplined Congolese side’s defence.

DeMbare created few chances to trouble Vita goalkeeper Lomboto Herve.

Meanwhile in Bulawayo, How Mine have one foot in the African Confederation Cup second round after defeating St Michel of the Seychelles 5-1 in the first leg of their first round clash at Barbourfields Stadium.

RED HOT: How Mine forward Kuda Musharu controls the ball during Saturday’s match against St Michel at Barbourfields Stadium.

Former Monomotapa forward Kuda Musharu opened the scoring for the gold miners after netting in the 10th before Jocelyn Felon equalised for the visitors in the 36th minute.

How Mine regained the lead through Thembani Masuku on the hour mark before full back Morris Kadzola added the third in the 72nd minute strike.

Menard Mupera scored How Mine’s fourth from the spot kick seven minutes from fulltime before Musharu completed his brace with a strike right on full time.

The second leg is scheduled for next weekend in Seychelles and it would take a total collapse for How Mine to be knocked out of the tournament after this impressive first leg victory.

Dynamos have put themselves in a very tight corner. Pasuwa has never won away from home in the Champions League and if we are to go by these statistics then we are out!
