Biti's house petrol-bombed

HARARE - Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) secretary-general Tendai Biti’s Umwinsidale home was petrol bombed by unknown assailants early yesterday morning.

The former Finance minister told the Daily News that unidentified men threw an explosive device at the security wall of his house in the leafy Harare suburb.

“This is the second time that my house has been bombed and the trauma that my wife and kids are facing is unacceptable,” Biti said.

“The people who are responsible for this must be brought to book.

There should be no room for violence in our society.”

Biti said he reported the case at Borrowdale Police Station.

Charity Charamba, the police spokesperson, confirmed the matter was reported to the police and investigations were underway.

In 2011, Biti’s house in the Grange suburb of Harare was  petrol-bombed.

The latest attack, comes at a time the lawyer-cum-politician was almost manhandled by MDC youths at the party headquarters
together with Elton Mangoma — who is calling for leadership renewal in the beleaguered party.

Biti, who described the attack as “so surreal” refused to apportion blame on anyone for the petrol-bombing, which was captured on his home’s CCTV footage.

“If you are seen to be challenging the system, these things are bound to happen,” Biti said without specifying which system. But I would rather the people put a petrol bomb in my car and not the house where my family is.”

A Daily News crew witnessed a badly-charred wall and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police conducting forensic
investigations.

According to a CCTV footage seen by this newspaper, a car is seen approaching Biti’s house at 01:06 am and then zooms past the house. Two minutes later, the car then
approaches Biti’s residence from another direction and briefly stops at the gate.

“A petrol bomb is then hurled, causing an explosion near the gate. The car then speeds off.

A security detail who was on duty inside the guard-house then emerges, running for dear life.

He said he initially suspected it was electric wires that had short circuited since it was drizzling at the time.

“However, I was shocked to see a huge flame on the wall. During that time, I heard a car fleeing from the scene,” said the guard, who declined to be named.

Why am I not surprised. What does Mr Mugabe and Zanu say now. You see we told you so. MDC is a violent party. Look they are devouring each other now. You see, we said it. But in all of it we need a sober and honest reflection. I can see that usual DIRTY HAND of Zanu. Our hands are clean! They'll exclaim. But this incident just smells the OLD Zanu , with its shallow intelligence tactics. MDC T leaders should sit down and urgently iron out their differences, at least for now. They should face their enemy united, then face each other later. They can't afford to fight now, when a huge python has entered their house. You first deal with the snake and then your domestic issues with your wife (that is a normal home). And in a normal home you fight, you differ, you quarrel, but that should not break the marriage. Mangoma, Biti and others should be ware of playing the Zanu ball, and dancing to the Zanu tune. Unfortunately for some of us it is better to live a sad life anywhere else than to be happy in Zanu . If Mangoma and others are really MDC their actions should speak for them. Their actions should not appear or suggest that they are agents of a certain party sent to destroy the MDC.

This is the second time it has happened to Biti. I feel our Z.R.P should provide the neccessary protection to the victim.

Self-inflicted scratching to divert real issues

Mukanya - 26 February 2014

What a golden opportunity to destroy MDC T? Mangoma and Biti reports to ZRP knowing very well that ZRP is there to serve Mugabe and Zanu Pf's interests. The economy is giving Mugabe and Zanu Pf a headache and this is serving to divert attention from real issues. Mangoma is being used to destroy MDC T and thereafter they will destroy him as well.

So Biti has houses in Unwinsdale and The Grange. You can imagine if these guys had another 5 years in government. They would be owning private jets by now

Biti - 26 February 2014

Those IDIOTS wo attacked Biti and Mangoma are simply giving ZPF the excuse and platform to play their war games. Who else but ZPF deals in guns and bombs? Come on MDC your silly childish actions are exactly what the ZPF warmongers have been waiting for.

The MOVEMENT of DISAPPOINTED CANTS are responsible for this cheap political grand standing . Who on earth will believe that some one trying to kill Biti will throw a petrol bomb on the pillar of his gate while he is fast asleep in the main house . Zanu PF has well trained millitary personal and bomb expects who would have helped the bombers with more advanced and effective explosives . This is the work of amatuers seeking attention or trying to scare the hell out of Biti for being behind the plot to unsit their leader Morgan . Right now those who were sent to do that stupid mission are peeing in their pants coz the No Plates can be read by enlarging that cctv tape . Mamama . M ajaira kushandiswa
