Tina launches second album

HARARE - Youthfull singer, composer and musician Tina Watyoka will launch her second album, Ndoita Sei? at Book Café on Thursday.

The event is expected to be graced by seasoned musicians Victor Kunonga and Alexio Kawara, whom she names among her mentors.

The lively and gifted artist has determinedly and doggedly pursued music from a young age, completing the National Certificate in Music, learning, playing and forming a band.

She built an audience and performed widely in Harare.

She recorded her debut album Introducing Tina in 2010, which received good airplay on radio.

Tina’s second offering Ndoita Sei? is a six-track array of no specific genre or category — with some lively Afro-pop and slow, soulful jams, to a traditional Shona element and experiments with the Mozambican pasada rhythms which she picked up from a recent visit there.

Added to the mix is a bit of hip-hop on Ndoita Sei? with the vocalist turning rapper.

“I wanted to cater for everyone,” says Tina “and the different music styles reflect different moods and ‘spaces’ where musicians find themselves in real life.”

Tina’s backing band on this album comprises session musicians with whom she often works, and most of them will be performing at the launch.
