Recovering Kawara resumes concerts

HARARE - Afro-fusion artiste Alexio Kawara, who was involved in an accident that left him with a broken leg in December last year, will return to the stage on Thursday at the Zimbabwe German Society (ZGS).

The Shaina hit-maker, whose last concert was the launch of his latest single Zvazvinhu on Christmas Eve, is confident that he is now in the right condition to resume shows.

“I am recovering and I will heal with time but I will still do what I know best, only that I will perform while sitting down,” Kawara told the Daily News yesterday.

“The doctor has not said anything yet but I feel that I can resume shows now.

“Of course I will not be dancing as I still can’t walk by myself. I will do more intimate shows, those that don’t need dancing up and down.”

Kawara said the two months he has been away from the stage has provided him with the opportunity to perfect his guitar-playing skills.

“I can’t say I am ready to play it yet. I still need to practise more.”

Don Gwese, who manages Kawara’s business affairs, believes the timing is right for the musician to return to the stage.

“It takes time for a broken leg to heal but it doesn’t mean that he has to stop all activities.

“We are honouring the promise we made to our fans that he would take a two-month break.

“This just shows that even though life has its setbacks, we have to soldier on. We hope this will inspire other people,” he said.
