Prophet Magaya goes into football

HARARE - Leader of Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries – Walter Magaya – is set to become a major shareholder of former Castle Premiership team Gunners, club president Cuthbert Chitima revealed on Thursday.

So influential has the Magaya led ministry been on Chitima that plans are in place to rename the 2009 Zimbabwean champions “Yada Gunners.”Yada is a Hebrew word, meaning “to know.”

“Prophet Magaya has been a Gunners supporter for a long time,” Chitima, who is an Elder in Magaya’s church, told the Daily News Yesterday.

Chitima however, refuted widespread claims that Magaya had bought a 50 percent stake in the Division One club, which has been in dire financial straits since 2012.

The financial woes saw them lose such key players as Cliff Sekete, Hardlife Zvirekwi, Byron Madzokere and Leonard Fiyado, eventually being relegated at the end of the 2012 season.

They have been battling to regain their Premiership status ever since.

“It’s a misconception. Prophet Magaya has not bought Gunners Football Club. The Prophet has always been a Gunners supporter.

“He actually announced in church that he will be supporting the team. He will be supporting the team financially and spiritually,” he said.

Magaya was on Tuesday spotted at Lafarge Stadium, attending a Gunners trials session.

His arrival drew large crowds from the surrounding areas of Mabvuku and Tafara as people jostled to catch a glimpse of the man who has taken the religious sector by storm.

Magaya is also famed for attracting several prostitutes to his church after also apparently reaching out to former pole dancer Beverly Sibanda.

Sunday the Bible says be slow to speak, why is that some people are always negative? Do you yourself fear God with all your heart? Where in the Bible is written that the things of this world means people who lack the knowledge of God. Jesus called Peter and his companions while they were fishers. In today's world fishing is a sport so what's your comment? Remember he came for the outcast, the unrighteous, the non-believers, not for the pharisees and smart ones!
