Dancehall duo could face criminal charges

HARARE - Whispers Night Club has threatened to press criminal charges against dancehall artistes Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Love for failing to fulfil a Valentine’s Day concert for which they had received partial payment.

Charles Gondo Rusike, the owner of the Harare-based night club, told the Daily News that the two Mbare-based chanters failed to turn up even though he had paid them required deposits before the show.

“I feel betrayed by the actions of the two artistes because I paid them. I am reporting them to the police,” said Rusike.

“I looked very foolish in front of fans who thronged the venue expecting to see the two musicians perform.
“They signed contracts guaranteeing their performance at our club on Valentine’s Day. On the actual day, they even lied that they were on their way to the venue.”

According to Rusike Seh Calaz held a concert in Cape Town on Valentine’s Day with Gum Kum hit-maker Soul Jah Love performing in Beitbridge despite the fact that they had signed contracts with the Highfield-based night club.

In addition to failing to honour the Whispers Night Club gig on Valentine’s Day, Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Love also failed to feature in a dancehall concert organised by Chipaz Promotions on the same day.

Super Label manager Rodgers Chinoperekwei is also up in arms with Soul Jah Love for failing to  show up for the much-hyped Zim Dancehall show hosted by Aftershock Entertainment at the venue two weeks ago.

“This is not the first time that these dancehall artistes have breached a contract and missed shows without giving any reasons for their absence,” said the Super Label manager.

“They cannot give excuses because we always give them advance payments as soon as they sign contracts with us.”
