Tsvangirai slams violence

HARARE - Opposition MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday slammed youths who assaulted secretary general Tendai Biti and deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma on Saturday.

Biti, Mangoma, youth assembly secretary-general Promise Mkwananzi and others were allegedly attacked when they stepped outside Harvest House soon after Tsvangirai had finished holding a meeting with 210 MDC district chairpersons, who gave him a ringing endorsement amid calls for his ouster.

Addressing thousands of party supporters at Glen Norah Community Hall in Harare, Tsvangirai condemned the youths saying they had deviated from the party’s founding principles of tolerance.

“Yesterday we had our meeting with district chairpersons from all over the country but after the meeting at Harvest House, there was chaos outside where some national executive members were blocked by rowdy youths from leaving,” Tsvangirai said.

“I unreservedly condemn that behaviour. As a party, we do not believe in ‘mobocracy’ but I know that some people will be angry and emotional.”

The former prime minister said the party youths were either possessed by a violence demon or were drunk and speculated that they could have been planted by his political opposition Zanu PF to tarnish the image of the MDC.

“I know there could have been infiltrators, agent provocateurs who want to tarnish the image of the party yet it is known that we have been victims of State-sponsored violence ourselves,” Tsvangirai said.

“They want to turn the tables now and say we are violent and that they are Saints.”

Turning to his internal foes, Tsvangirai said they were wasting time by seeking to oust him as he was not prepared to let go before “attaining our objectives”.

He said the MDC was formed by the poor, students, civic society and workers, before it was open to all.
The veteran opposition leader warned those pushing for his ouster.

“Musateye nzou neriva (Do not waste your time trying to trap an elephant using a snare), we have come a long way with this struggle and it is not a stroll in the park,” Tsvangirai said.

The meeting was attended by MDC vice president Thokozani Khupe, national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa, deputy secretary-general Tapiwa Mashakada  among others.

Biti, Mangoma and youth assembly president Solomon Madzore did not attend the rally.

You can not fit "thousands of people" into that tiny Glen Norah Community Hall. Tsvangison is a violent man and he should be aware that the image of the beaten up Mangoma was beamed all over the world and the whole world now sees the beast for what he really is. I feel very sorry for his hopeless lickers like Chamisa, Khuphe and Mwonzora. Big up to the original Wanachi for not shoring up the monster of Harvest House.

Maintain your leader and start strategising for next elections, is the voters roll now okay, work on your structures ,also infiltrate your rivals, much as your leader has weaknesses, where is a perfect leader; learn from your key opponents what are they doing now, what can you do; you are being split along academic and tribal lines. Tererai kuti mukure mu politics-Mangoma nana Biti are good technocrats and they should remain there.

@reason, now tell us who we should worry about. 90 year old or yourself. who, who, who, who. this man is still popular and seems to be playing his cards close and well now, if you never knew. he is slowly correcting his mistakes and is aware of them. he is one person who seems to be agreeing to failures. he is one leader we may see doing it like mandela as soon as he puts things right for this country. remember that our intelligent proffesor j moyo is worried about his moves. i am not saying he going to rule the country but he is working hard to make sure that zanu pf answers for their misrule. if only his followers see that side of him.

Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.

The MDC T should speak with one voice if ther are any hopes of getting into power,Tendai Biti should park the bus,his time shall come, kumhanya handiko kusvika.

Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality that guarantees all the others. Politics is the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.

Chedumba - 18 February 2014

Inzwa ka REASON specify reasons why Tsvangirayi must go, when he was losing were they not together nana Biti; nyaya iripo ndeyekuti by 2018 MDC should have split, coz assuming Tsvangirayi steps down vana Chamisa will resurface. Inzwai MDC its not about changing leadership asi strategy. Va Mugabe vakataura nezuro pa interview yavo kuti havangabvi ppanyanga vachisiya Party iri divided. Nyangwe muchivashoropodza dzidzai one or two things here. There are high chances of factionalism (2 camps) if Tsvangirayi goes. Open your eyes and see into the future.
