Albert Nyathi to collaborate with Iyasa

HARARE - Dub poet Albert Nyathi and Iyasa have teamed up to create a song titled What’s Up that focuses on the negative effects of social media.

Iyasa director Innocent Nkululeko Dube told the Daily News that artistes have a duty  to enlighten society on the impact of social media.

“Families in Zimbabwe are disintegrating due to the social media especially Facebook and WhatsApp,” he said.

“What’s Up will be accompanied by a video that will include poetry, music and dance.”

Dube said the duet with Nyathi was part of a bigger project that will include making eight videos for their 12-track album Africa Alive.

“The album was released last year, but it was very Eurocentric. Now we are doing it the African way. Out of the 12 tracks, we are going to do eight videos including the one we did with Nyathi,” he said.

Nyathi, who has collaborated with several artistes in Zimbabwe and beyond, is excited by the duet with the famous Bulawayo arts group.

“This collaboration is a great achievement to me and also to the group (Iyasa),” said the Senzeni Na singer who is the chairman of the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura).

“With Iyasa, we have taken an extra mile to explore other artistic avenues because this is what artists should do.”
