Female ex-convict wants married man

HARARE - A female ex-convict claims she was given a traditional healer as her husband by the “Holy Spirit” while she was in prison.

This emerged after Tobias Chibaya, a traditional healer dragged ex-convict, Juliet Nechikwara before the Harare Civil Court seeking peace with her.

Chibaya said Nechikwara has been troubling him and is claiming  the “Holy Spirit” ordered her to be her husband.

He told magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami that she knew Nechikwara as a neighbour and has never been in love with her.

“She is claiming the ‘Holy Spirit’ told her when she was in prison that I am her rightful husband. She once got me arrested after claiming that I raped her but it was later discovered she was lying and was convicted for perjury,” complained Chibaya.

“The problem now is since she was released from prison, she has been threatening to kill my wife and children saying she is the rightful woman for me. She visited my parents at my rural home in Mutare and told them that I must be her husband.

“As I am speaking now, she has left her husband and children at her home.”

Chibaya told the court that he wants Nechikwara to be barred from coming to his house and to stop calling him on his mobile phone threatening him.

Nechikwara did not dispute Chibaya’s allegations.

She said she started having an affair with Chibaya after he raped her the day she visited him seeking help.

“I started knowing Chibaya as a traditional healer,” she said.

“He raped me and promised to marry me if I did not report the matter to the police. The reason I am causing havoc is that I love him and I want him to marry me because he promised to marry me when I get out of prison.”

Magistrate Muvhami ordered Nechikwara to observe peace towards Chibaya and his family at all times. He also ordered her to refrain from spreading malicious stories against Chibaya.
